OUR NEW ADVENTURE
Jerry and I have recently started on a new adventure. We have purchased almost 27 acres of land on top of a mountain outside of White Bird, Idaho. Our long term goal is to eventually move there. It is a little more centrally located in the State and has a milder winter than what we are used to. That area also boasts over 300 days with some sunshine! The surrounding countryside still has plenty of riding, fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation opportunities. The following will be a "journal" of what progress we are making.
We took these pictures on our June 6th, 2006, trip to "view" the property. The trip up to the property is a ride in itself, (by that, I mean it gains a lot of elevation in a very short time, which translates into that it is steep and the road switchbacks up for 10 miles). When we were discussing the property I commented to Jerry that it was a long way up there to which he stated, "yeah but once you get there, it is worth it!" We loved the land and the views and made an offer as soon as we got back to the realtor's office. We found out while we were at the office that the owner would accept our offer, so we KNEW that day that we would own the property! It was pretty exciting!
This is the view as you start back down the grade towards the Salmon River. Did I mention our property is at approximately 4800' feet in elevation?
This view is from the hill to the south of our property -- if you look in the middle of the picture - you can see our camper. This is approximately where we are putting in an RV pad and eventually a cabin.
This is an early morning shot looking south from the east side of the property.
Pretty cool, eh?
We've seen a few incredible sunsets from our property when we've been there and are looking forward to viewing many more.
This is a portrait of us...me, Abby and Jerry, in front of the little shed that we have set up on the property.
The road construction began in the fall of 2006 and was graveled just before snow flew. Jerry and his uncle went down in March and graded the road to spread the gravel out a little more evenly.

We had the well drilled in July of 2007. We hit the first water at 160 feet and the driller continued on to a depth of 205 feet. We have 10 gallons per minute. We were relieved!! Without water....it would just be a piece of ground! I was also relieved because I "witched" where we drilled the well.....kind of scary!!!
We spent a few days over the Memorial Day weekend making fence and enjoying all of the wild flowers that were blooming on our property. It was beautiful!
In September, we again went down to do some more fencing. While we were there we were privy to a magnificent thunder storm and a phenomenal rainbow just before sunset one evening. Unfortunately, the setting on my camera was not quite right!
We got to see another beautiful sunset on our last trip down in 2007.
We are hoping that we get to spend a little more time down in White Bird in the coming year. We have quite a bit more fence to make and are planning on having the electricity run from the east edge of the property to the well so we'll have running water and a electrical hook-up for our camper!!!
Until then.....
